KANOSUKE DISTILLERY WHISKY TASTING

The Kanosuke Distillery have been releasing excellent limited edition expressions since their inception and this 2023 release is the latest superb single malt whisky to add to that list. It was created with peated malt that was distilled in 2018 and 2019, before being aged in ex-Shochu and ex-Sherry casks prior to bottling this year. The combination of cask types used for maturation has resulted in a well-rounded, moreish expression that delivers sweet, fruity and spicy notes on the nose, before a much more subtle palate arrives with citrus fruits, candied peels and gentle cinnamon spice. The finish is well-rounded, displaying a mix of winter and summer fruits, malt and subtle oaky tones.

The tasting event will feature the following:

SINGLE MALT KANOSUKE

SINGLE MALT KANOSUKE is the flagship whisky from KANOSUKE distillery. Made from lightly peated, three different pot still, and matured in re-charred American white oak as a key cask that used for barrel aged shochu “Mellowed Kozuru”. Mashed, fermented, distilled, and maturated in Kagoshima. Non-chill filtered.

KANOSUKE DOUBLE DISTILLERY

“Kanosuke Double Distillery” is a Japanese whisky made at the two distilleries owned by our family in Kagoshima, on Japan’s southwest coast. The carefully crafted recipe brings out the distinctive characteristics of each distillery. Pot still whisky distilled at Hioki, and single malt distilled at Kanosuke. Both spirits are aged at Kanosuke.

KANOSUKE HIOKI POT STILL

“Kanosuke HIOKI POT STILL” is made at Hioki distillery by using unmalted and malted barley, mashed and fermented in a unique process, then distilled carefully in a pot still, followed by maturation in new American white oak casks and bourbon barrels at the KANOSUKE distillery warehouse.

SINGLE MALT KANOSUKE 2022 LIMITED EDITION

“Single Malt Kanosuke 2022 LIMITED EDITION 59% 700ml” is a single malt Japanese whisky which embodies Kanosuke Distillery’s concept of “MELLOW LAND, MELLOW WHISKY” and was produced using all 3 of our pot stills, aged in several varieties of oak barrels, and blended together after 3 years of maturation.

SINGLE MALT KANOSUKE 2023 SECOND EDITION

Distilled from 100% malted barley; blend of malt peated to 50 ppm and unpeated malt. Aged an average 4–5 years in a combination of ex–bourbon barrels, ex–Mellowed Kozuru rice shochu American oak casks, and sherry casks; non-age statement

Robust notes of cinnamon, pastry custard, banana, and smokey incense on the nose precede a weighty palate of black tea, salted caramel, and baking spice with a dry finish full of salty-sweet smoke.

An older, smokey departure from Kanosuke Distillery’s previous annual, limited edition release, this heavily peated single malt blends peated and unpeated malts distilled in 2018 and 2019 that have been carefully aged in a variety of casks—including the distillery’s signature use of Mellow Kozuru rice shochu casks—and bottled at cask strength.
